TEENAGE spinner Jack Leach plundered four wickets in Herefordshire’s second innings at Dean Park yesterday to increase his match tally to an incredible 10 on his Dorset debut.

The 19-year-old left-arm slow bowler weaved his magic again as the visitors were reduced to 203-6 by the end of the second day of the Minor Counties Championship clash.

Leach, the Somerset 2nds player who also turns out for Cardiff-Glamorgan University, grabbed 4-68 in 25 overs as Herefordshire ended play 113 runs ahead.

He had plundered 6-78 in 31 overs during Herefordshire’s first innings when they were dismissed for 230.

Dorset, who badly need a win to boost their Western Division title hopes, had begun the day on 155-5 in their first innings, 75 runs behind their visitors.

Skipper Tom Hicks, 21 overnight, only added nine before departing early, and Leach followed for a duck as Dorset quickly slumped to a worrying 179-7.

But wicketkeeper-batsman Chris Park, nought overnight, steadied the ship as he blasted 48.

Park also got the tail wagging alongside him as Dorset finished on 320 for nine in their allocated 90 overs, a valuable first innings lead of 90.

Park and Ed Denham (37) put on 67 for Dorset’s eighth wicket, before the accomplished wicket-keeper batsman and Rupes Kitzinger (37 not out) enjoyed a 57-run stand for the ninth.

Number 11 Eric Linge was unbeaten on 13 with 50 extras pumping up Dorset’s score.

Then spinner Leach resumed where he left off on Sunday, sending back Craig Wood (16), Steve Adshead (23), Atiq Chishti (50) and Chris Boroughs (75) to leave Herefordshire on 203-6 going into the final day.
