MARTYN Richards believes there is “no room for complacency” ahead of tomorrow’s derby date with Weymouth (1.30pm).

The two rivals are desperate to win tomorrow’s Dorset Premier League encounter – but for very different reasons.

Dorchester need to maintain their grip on top spot while the Seasiders could be dragged into a relegation scrap should they lose at the Rec.

The county town side enjoyed a six-wicket victory when the two teams met at Redlands back in May but skipper Richards is wary heading into tomorrow’s showdown.

He said: “I’m sure it will be a spectacle however it unfolds and I’m sure Weymouth will be out to get one over on us.

“The last game against them was a really good day for us and we were quite fortunate that Dan Belt was in fantastic form and we managed to bowl them out for a relatively low score.

“We know they will be keen to do much better tomorrow and, last weekend aside, they’ve had some good performances of late.

“They were the first team to beat Parley this year and they also put in a good display at Poole, so they’ll believe they can spoil our season.

“Therefore we have got to prepare as best we can. Form and league placings go out of the window so there’s no room for complacency.

“We need to keep improving if we are to stay at the top of the table.”

Apart from 20 points, Richards is also praying for good weather, adding: “We’ve been looking forward to the game for ages so we’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed that the weather stays dry.”

Dorchester, who enter the match on the back of six straight wins, welcome back Steve Gerety, Dan Belt, Xenon Ellis and Lee Haynes for the visit of Weymouth.

Their returns see James Dunham, Joe Power, Hugh Pryce and Dave Herbert drop down to the seconds.

Richards said: “We are very strong this week. The lads who came in last week did very well and are unlucky to lose their places.”
