Dorchester Town boss Ashley Vickers will run the rule over former team-mate Stuart Douglas in Saturday’s pre-season friendly with Dagenham & Redbridge.
The two men played together at Weymouth during the 2007/08 campaign and Vickers has been on the striker’s trail since the end of last season.
Douglas, who turned out for Havant & Waterlooville in their 2-1 defeat to Portsmouth last Saturday, has now agreed to a trial at the Avenue Stadium and is set to feature against the League One Daggers this weekend.
The county town chief, whose side also host Crawley on Friday night, said: “Dougie will be playing for us on Saturday and it’ll be good to see him against decent opposition.
“I’ve been trying to get him to come down and train with us but as an experienced lad he wants to have something with a club before he trains with them.
“If Ryan Moss gets injured we don’t have a like-for-like replacement. He is a force for us and it would be good to get someone in that is of the same mould – like Dougie.
“Dougie brings experience but we would only take him on if the wages were right.”
Douglas won’t be the only trialist on show as the auditions for next season’s squad continue.
One man who appears to have caught the eye already, following a 45-minute appearance in last weekend’s 2-0 loss at Wimborne, is ex-Yeovil Town and Bournemouth Poppies forward Rico Wilson.
Vickers added: “Rico has something about him. He’s a young lad but he’s very strong, quick and causes havoc. Now I want to see him against better opposition.
“I liked the look of Rico so we’ll see what comes of that. Having said that, all the trialists did okay.
“We’ve got two games coming up this weekend and we need to utilise the players we’ve already got as well as the trialists.
“After that we’ll sit down and work out who we will carry on looking at and who we won’t.”
Meanwhile, Dorchester’s trip to Salisbury – scheduled for July 24 – has been cancelled.
Former City boss Tommy Widdrington became Paul Sturrock’s assistant at Southend United earlier this week and part of the deal sees the Shrimpers visit Wiltshire on Friday, July 23.
