WEYSPORTS hopes to uncover future stars of netball when they launch their latest development centre this month.
The community sports trust has already set a centre for budding young footballers, but are now doing the same with girls looking to improve their skills in the sport of netball.
County player Juliette Frampton will be the netball development centre manager having graduated from the University of Brighton with a degree in sports science.
She said: “I’ve been in schools, done assemblies, talked to teachers and liaised with everyone to get things set up.
“Nothing like this has been done before this side of the county. There is already a junior league for the schools but there is no regular coaching for junior players.
“We want to compete with East Dorset because they have a really good set-up with their junior netball. When I was young I had to go over there and play myself.
“We want to provide top coaching this side of the county so people don’t have to travel. If there is the talent there we want to push them as far as they can go.
“I’ve had really good response from teachers and schools that don’t have the chance to do after-school clubs.”
“The schools have been very positive and hopefully it will take off.”
Tuesday, July 20, will be the day the centre officially opens at Budmouth Technology College netball courts, taking place every Tuesday for girls aged between eight and 13 for a cost of just £3 a week.
Trials take place on the opening Tuesday for under-9s (5-6pm), under-10s (6-7pm) and under-11s (7-8pm), as well as the following evening for under-12s (5-6pm), under-13s (6-7pm) and under-14s (7-8pm).
For more information or to sign up, telephone Frampton on 07525 059063 or email juliettef@weysports.co.uk * Weysports is also hosting a series of netball summer schools open to children of all abilities between the ages of eight and 11.
Budmouth Technology College hosts sessions from July 26-30 (10am-3pm each day), Holy Trinity School is the venue from August 2-6 (10am-3pm) while Osprey Leisure Centre is open to players on August 17, 19, 24 and 26 (11am-4pm).
Sessions are priced at £10 per day at £18 for two days. For more information or to book a place, contact Frampton via one of the above methods.
