Dorchester captain Martyn Richards has drafted in three teenagers for tomorrow’s Dorset Premier League clash at Broadstone (1.30pm).
The county town side are without the services of Xenon Ellis, Dan Belt, Steve Gerety and Quenton Miller so in come Dave Herbert and 17-year-old trio Hugh Pryce, Joe Power and James Dunham.
Left-arm bowler Dunham is no stranger to the first team but all-rounder Pryce and off-spinner Power have made only a handful of appearances between them.
Richards though, is confident in their ability, saying: “Tomorrow will be a test for us as we have to make four changes.
“Xenon Ellis, Dan Belt, Steve Gerety and Quenton Miller are all unavailable but the lads coming in all have something to offer.
“It would be easy to look to the senior players at the club but there is always a chance for the younger players and this week there are three of them coming in who have all been doing well for the seconds.
“They have the chance to shine tomorrow and I’m confident they will impress.”
Second-placed Dorchester enter tomorrow’s encounter on the back of five straight victories. Their opponents meanwhile, who lie mid-table, have suffered an inconsistent campaign thus far.
Richards added: “Broadstone have had a couple of great results this season but also had some poor ones. But we will prepare for the game as normal, expecting to face a very strong side.
“They have good batsmen and consistent bowlers so we won’t be taking anything for granted.
“The Delph is always a tough place to go so we need to make sure we’re at our best. We’ve won five in a row but that means other teams will want to stop our run.
“We’ve done really well in the last five weeks but in all of those performances there has been room for improvement and we’ve got to keep improving if we want to keep winning games.”
Dorchester: Moxom, Maslen, Tweddle, Waite, Mead, Richards, Morley, Herbert, Pryce, Power, Dunham.
* Dorchester Seconds play host to Division Two leaders Hamworthy Recreation (2pm) while the county town thirds, sitting proudly at the Division Six summit, welcome third-placed Sturminster Marshall to Charlton Down tomorrow (2pm).
