A FIVE-WICKET haul from Mark James helped St George’s reinforce their position at the summit of Dorchester Evening League Division One.

The table-toppers, up against Hazelbury Bryan, set an imposing total of 146-2 from their 20 overs with Colin Gough finishing on 53 not out.

And the Saints dashed any hopes of a Hazelbury upset by skittling their opponents for 40 – James returning hugely impressive figures of 5-6.

Herrison Youth (126-2) remain four points adrift of the leaders, but with a game in hand, after Dave Griffiths’ unbeaten knock of 65 led them to victory over Dewlish (122-7).

Rich Cole (3-16) was Herrison’s star performer with the leather.

Puddletown’s (66ao) search for a first win of the season continues following defeat at the hands of Cerne Valley (68-4).

Andy Spearing (4-14) snared four wickets to hasten the former’s downfall.

Will McKay’s efforts with the willow bore fruit as Abbotsbury bagged two victories to move level on points with Division Two pacesetters Bere Regis.

First, McKay (39) played his part in Abbotsbury’s (120-4) comfortable victory over Puddletown Reserves (71ao), before smashing 68 in a slightly closer encounter (135-5) with Frampton (119-8).

Bowlers Simon Pengelly, who claimed 3-6 against Puddletown, and Ed Ford, who snared 4-25 against Frampton, also made telling contributions.

Bere (79-5) maintained their grip on top spot with a five-wicket success over Winfrith (78ao), in which Dean Rogerson returned figures of 3-15 before top scoring with 29 runs.

Charlton Down (28-3) eased to victory against Cattistock (24ao) with Kim Park (4-9) wreaking havoc.

Plush are now second, but level on points with both United and Colliton, after impressive displays from Declan Chubb and Luke Raines led them to a 42-run win against Puddletown RFC.

Chubb plundered 58 as Plush totalled 150-3 before Raines’ fifer (5-23) helped dismiss the rugby club for 108.

The division’s other fixture saw Martins-town Seconds (110-7) get the better of Charlton Down Seconds (50ao).
