ST OSMUND’S Middle once again earned the tag of ‘top school’ at the Dorset Schools Biathlon Relays.

Close to 150 pupils, from 14 schools, gathered at the Osprey Leisure Centre and the high standard of competition made for exciting races.

But it was St Osmund’s who came out on top, bagging 47 points after winning both the boys and girls’ sections.

Holy Trinity took the Year Four boys’ honours, Radipole triumphed in the Year Five boys’ event while Dorchester Middle’s Year Six girls also tasted glory.

Beaminster came first in the Year Seven boys’ race with All Saints doing likewise in the Year Eight and Nine girls’ contest.

Event spokesman Mick Flaherty said: “The effort and enthusiasm put in by the athletes was excellent, with everyone giving their best effort.

“It was also good to see kids who would not usually compete in a school team coming along to take part, with all standards of competitors.

“Congratulations to St Osmund’s on once again being top school.”

Flaherty added: “Like all events this would not have been possible without the help of the parents and teachers.

“So I would like to thank all those who helped on the day, especially Sam Halford, Nick and Liz Ireland, Colin Mullins, Andy Mules, Richard Bowles and Sally and Andy Whittall for officiating.

“Thanks also go to Osprey Leisure Centre for the use of their facilities, and to Nigel Williams and the staff for all their hard work on the day.

“Lastly, I would like to thank the school sports co-ordinators, schools and teachers on promoting the event.”
