BROADSTONE SECONDS 263-6 (8pts) lost to DORCHESTER SECONDS 265-7 (18pts) by three wickets

DORCHESTER Seconds put a miserable defeat to Marnhull firmly behind them with victory over Broadstone Seconds at the Rec.

Chasing 263, the county town outfit had their work cut out, but impressive shows with the bat from skipper Ollie Bennett (50), Simon Joslin (47) and Stuart Beasley (61 not out) helped guide the hosts over the finish line with three wickets and 3.4 overs to spare.

Vice-captain Stuart Voss said: “It was a very enjoyable win. I don’t know if there’s been too many run chases like that at the Rec before but it’s the biggest run chase I’ve been involved in.

“We struggled in the field in the very first over and they took advantage.

“But we were confident of doing well if we could get off to a good start. And that’s exactly what Ollie and Matt King did.

“Simon Joslin and Stuart also had good knocks and it was a very pleasing result.

“If we can keep going about our business like that then I’m sure we’ll be okay.”

The visitors, sitting second from bottom in Dorset League Division One, lost the wicket of L MacManus with 49 on the scoreboard.

But Broadstone, led by a fantastic innings from Paul Triniman (94), pushed themselves to 187 before disaster struck as they began to lose men at regular intervals.

Beasley (3-42) and Matt King (2-20) worked their magic to leave the away side somewhat startled at 240-6.

R Poole (19 not out) and J Burns (10 not out) put up some resistance before Broadstone ended their allotted overs on 263-6.

Dorchester’s reply started impressively with Bennett and King in fine form until the latter fell for 39.

The hosts were shaken as Poole (4-29) began to tear through the county town order, but stability arrived in the form of Joslin and Beasley who joined forces to put on a fifth-wicket stand of 78.

Voss and Dorchester Town FC keeper Regan Coward both fell for seven to set up an anxious finale but Mike Peak (six not out), alongside Beasley, managed to see Dorchester past the magic figure for their second victory of the campaign.
