THERE were some fine performances at the Weymouth St Paul’s Harriers’ first meet of the season in the Wessex Young Athletes League.
Tom Austin was outstanding in the Under-17 Men’s group, finishing third in both the 1,500m and the long jump where he recorded a personal best of 4.64metres.
He then claimed fourth spot in the 400m with another personal best of 59.8sces.
In the Under-13 girls, Emily Mason set personal bests in the 70m hurdles and the 1,200m with times of 15.8secs and 4mins 57secs to finish second in both events.
Laura Rankin and Kelly Allan also competed well in their various events with the latter claiming fourth place in the B string long jump.
Abi Strong was the only athlete for the Harriers in the Under-15 girls but she was very pleased with her fourth place in the shot and discus.
In the Quadkids competition, Luke Strong finished seventh overall having recorded personal bests in all four events.
Mark Rankin also enjoyed his day with his best achievement coming in the form of a 21.8m throw in the Howler.
Savannah Evans collected 91 points despite only being able to compete in three events while Lauryn Montrose and Hannah Westhenry recorded personal bests.
The next Wessex Young Athletes League and Quadkids competition will take place on Sunday.
The Harriers also recently took part in a Track and Field Meet for eight to 15-year-olds at Wimborne.
In the Under-9 60m, Lee Manning performed well while in the same age group Emily Fraher was the only Harrier brave enough to enter and finish the 300m.
Manning won the Under-9 football throw with a distance of 8.7m with Fraher in second, Mark Strudwick in fourth and Zoe Allan in sixth.
Montrose won the Under-11 girls’ shot with a personal best of 4.68m and she also finished third in the long jump with 2.87m. John Reed was fourth with 2.82m.
Hannah Gray tied second in the 60m, Melody Callister performed well in her event and John Reed claimed success in the football throw with an effort of 12.1m.
Kelly Allan was second in the Under-13 girls’ 100 metres, which she completed in 16.1secs. Sadingston and Ryan followed closely behind.
Zoe Allan and Lauryn Montrose ran well in the 300m while in the long jump Kelly Allan, Sadingston and Charlotte Ryan performed at their best in a closely fought event.
Matthew Strudwick was the only Under-15 boy to travel but the effort proved worthwhile as he finished second in the 100m and third in both the shot and the long jump.
