WEYMOUTH boss Matty Hale has insisted that he will only sign players who have a desire to play for the club.
Due to financial constraints the 30-year-old has already lost out on a couple of targets but he remains philosophical and is confident of delivering some more good news in the coming days.
Hale, who has signed Dean Grubb, Andy Harris and Dean Smith since taking charge, said: “There is no more news on the player front at the moment.
“I have spoken to a lot of players over the past two weeks but due to the situation we are in financially, other clubs can offer more money.
“But is that the type of player we want to come here anyway? I don’t think it is. We want players that want to be at the club not ones that just want to come down and pick up their pay packet.
“We have brought three players in so far and although last week was a bit frustrating in some ways, we are certainly not panicking.
“We are just making sure that we bring in the right ones.
“I have been in the job for just over a couple of weeks now and I am really enjoying it, and hopefully I will have a bit more positive news over the next few days.”
The Terras held a trial game at Weymouth College on Saturday where several young trialists took centre stage alongside a large group of local players that included some of the under-18 stars that turned out for the club last season.
Hale added: “Around 30 players turned up and it went well.
“There was certainly plenty of potential there and we will be inviting some of the lads back for pre-season training.”
One thing Hale has managed to secure is a pre-season friendly against Torquay United, who won promotion back to the Football League last season through the Blue Square Premier play-offs.
He added: “As well as Bristol City coming down here on July 21, Torquay United will visit us on July 31.
“Both those games will kick-off at 7.30pm.
“We are also hoping to tie up another game with Chasetown as well as matches against Bridport and Portland United.”
