WEYMOUTH’S Ian Cardy and former Dorchester AC member Louise Bardsley were both amongst the medals at the European Duathlon Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Cardy set one of the fastest times of all the age group races with an overall time of 1hr 53mins and 58secs to take silver for Great Britain in the 35-39 age group.

After completing the opening 10km run in 33mins 25secs, Cardy negotiated the 41km cycle course in 1hr 1min 56secs before running the final 5km in 16mins and 3secs.

But he was not the only local athlete to produce the goods with Bardsley claiming bronze in the 25-29 years section.

The ex-county town athlete equalled her personal best in the opening 10km race with a time of 37mins 34secs.

She then followed that with a solid cycle ride and another good run to come home in third place as the fifth fastest lady overall.

Ian Habgood nearly made it a hat-trick of medals for the area but he just missed out on the podium with a fourth-placed finish in the men’s 25-29 age group.

The Dorchester competitor’s split times were 33mins 23secs for the 10km run, 1hr 5mins 39secs for the 41km cycle ride and 17mins 56secs for the 5km run.
