ROUND three of the British Superkart Championship was an event to forget for Weymouth’s Mark Vaughan.
Things looked good for the seasider after a fourth-placed finish in race one at the Anglesey circuit in North Wales but two strokes of bad luck saw Vaughan pull out of the remaining two.
Indeed, Vaughan’s placing in the first race was made all the more impressive given the fact he started at the back of the grid and had to overcome an oil leak, which affected his vision.
Vaughan set his sights on a top-three finish in race two but at the very first corner, the Weymouth racer took a hit from the left and saw a tyre come clean off the rim.
In race three, Vaughan was once again made to start from the rear. He got off to a clean start but a collision between two karts in front forced Vaughan into immediate action, and he had no other option but to pull off the track.
Unfortunately for Vaughan, the aversion caused damage to his Viper Honda kart, which later turned out to be a hairline crack in the engine.
Vaughan will be hoping for better luck at Snetterton in East Anglia when the championship continues next month.
