TEAM manager Jem Dicken is wary of a Scunthorpe backlash at the Wessex Bus Raceway tonight but remains confident his Wildcats have enough in the tank to record a National League double over the Saints (7.15pm).
Weymouth Doonan Wildcats kicked off the 2009 league campaign with an impressive 51-42 victory at Scunthorpe.
And although the Radipole Lane outfit have amassed a two-point lead at the top of the table, Dicken is keen to keep his riders grounded.
He said: “Although we took maximum points up at their place we will not sit on our laurels and will offer the Saints the respect they deserve, but in saying that I am quite confident of taking the maximum points on offer again.”
The Wildcats are unbeaten at the Wessex this year and despite being wary of a wounded Saints’ side, Dicken believes it would take something special to spoil Weymouth’s home record.
He added: “The boys have been flying at the Wessex Bus Raceway this year and I see no reason why they will not continue in the same vein of form.
“The atmosphere in the camp is on a high and all the lads are helping one another if and when any problem occurs. They have gelled well and it shows by the fact we are sitting at the top of the league table.”
Wildcats: 1 Mark Burrows, 2 Terry Day, 3 James Cockle, 4 Matt Wright, 5 Lee Smart, 6 Tim Webster, 7 James White-Williams.
