A MARVELLOUS goalkeeping display by Mike Deer helped Weymouth Youth Managers record a 2-1 win over their Dorchester counterparts to capture the Mike Hetherington Shield at the Wessex Stadium.
The Terras took the lead through an own goal from Stuart Kemp and when Dan Saunders rounded the visiting keeper after the break to slot in a second it looked like the result had been settled.
However, Dorchester rallied and following several top-class saves from Deer, they got one back through a virtuoso effort from Jason Freeman, who skipped past three defenders before blasting the ball into the net.
Despite that strike coming on 88 minutes the county town side still had time to muster one more opening but Freeman’s diving header fell narrowly wide with the goal gaping.
Weymouth spokesman Jake Richmond said: “It was a great game and Mike really kept us in it in the second half with some fantastic saves.
“In the end we collected £415 on the day and with the Redlands Community Sports Hub donating £100 for sponsoring the game and the match-ball, it means a cheque for £515 will be making its way to the Help for Heroes Charity, which is fantastic.”
