DODGEBALL has come to Dorset with a brand new league set to launch next month.
The aim of the game is to eliminate your opponents, by striking them with a ball, while remembering to avoid being hit yourself.
The Weymouth Dodgeball League is set to get underway on June 21 and organiser Reece Best is urging people to give it a go.
He said: “It’s a new sport that is open to anyone. We’ve had a few females playing it and that’s great to see as there aren’t many mixed sports around anymore.
“Anyone aged 14 and upwards can play and it’s a sport that’s more about enjoyment than winning. It’s a fun sport and not at all dangerous.
“We’re hoping to get the league up and running on June 21. At the moment we have a tester league whereby we get used to the rules and how they work. And we train at Weymouth College Sports Hall every Sunday between 2pm and 3pm.
“You only need four people in a team and hopefully, as opposed to having six in a team, this will open it up to more groups.”
Anyone still unfamiliar with the sport needs only to rent a copy of the 2004 hit comedy film ‘Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story’, which starred Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn.
Best added: “The film has helped people become more interested in the sport but it’s still not that well-known. Ultimately I want dodgeball to become one of the well-known sports in Weymouth.”
