CHICKERELL will have to be on top form to overcome free-scoring Wincanton Town at Moor Lane this evening according to Chickens’ boss Maurice Welch.
United need to win their last two games to claim runners-up spot in the Dorset Premier League but with Town having fired seven past both champions Portland and Bridport Reserves in the last five days, there is no doubt that tonight’s game is a tough one to call.
Welch said: “Wincanton are really going for it at the minute. Most teams do not have anything to play for at this stage of the season but I understand they have a new manager coming in at the end of the campaign and the players there are clearly out looking to impress.
“They beat Portland 7-1 and Bridport Reserves 7-2, and from what I have been told they are looking a very good side at the moment so we will have to be at our best to beat them.
“The positive news is that all the injuries we had are now beginning to subside and everyone is available apart from Scott Henley, who unfortunately has work commitments down in Devon.”
If Chickerell fail to gain the three points tonight they could still capture third spot with victory in Saturday’s re-arranged fixture with Holt United at Weymouth College (3pm).
Chickerell: A Weeks, Graham, Biles, Daniels, L Weeks, Miles, Welch, Evans, Hall, Roper, Smith, Sibley, Etherington, White, Coltart.
