ADAM Hoxey was the big winner at Weymouth Rugby Club’s end of season celebration.

Hoxey’s work-rate, dedication and overall effort helped him scoop the Player of the Year award, which was presented by outgoing first-team skipper Tony Worle.

Worle has decided to hang up his boots along with second XV counterpart John Beare, and the duo both received RFU VIP ties and club coats to mark their contributions to the seaside outfit.

Dave Allan picked up two awards on the night, winning the Veterans’ Player of the Year prize and the trophy for most points scored this season.

Beare said: “Dave has been fantastic for the Vets, he has helped the players that do not have much experience and he has set a fine example on the pitch.”

The most number of tries scored however, went the way of Will Quick.

Worle said: “Will has really developed this season and what a good prospect he will be for the seasons ahead.”

Kevin Leatham was named the second team’s Player of the Year, Tom Smethurst picked up the Most Improved Player of the Year award, Will Hughes won the Kneecap Trophy while Anthony Cowburn received the Tackle of the Year accolade.

Clubman of the Year went to secretary Chris Davis with Denise Davis named as Clubwoman of the Year. Weymouth’s first XV finished third in Dorset & Wilts One South while the seconds were placed fifth in Three South.

Chairman Glyn Arnold said: “Weymouth RFC’s first and second teams have done extremely well in their leagues this season.

“There have been some good victories and some fantastic games of rugby that everybody has enjoyed.

“I must thank the coaches, players and all of the volunteers for their hard work throughout the season.”
