DORCHESTER Town are considering a move for former Terra Kyle Critchell.

The defender left Weymouth last summer to join Wrexham on a two-year deal. Much of his first season with the Dragons was plagued by an ankle injury but the ex-Southampton man enjoyed loan periods with York City and the Terras in the second half of the campaign.

Critchell still has another year to run on his contract at Wrexham and although Magpies’ assistant-manger Ashley Vickers believes his former team-mate has plenty to offer, he admits that money would have be freed up in order to make an approach for the 22-year-old.

He said: “I’ve spoken to Critchell myself. He’s a great player and I’d love to have him but it’s about freeing up money and until we can do that it would be wrong to offer players things we can’t deliver.

“We will only offer deals that we can offer. He knows how much we rate him but again it’s about what money is available.”

Striker Jamie Mudge, who left the Magpies in January amidst a cost-cutting exercise, could be offered a return to the county town and there are other new faces that Vickers and player-boss Roy O’Brien are looking to draft in for next season.

Vickers added: “We’re looking to sign a new striker or two and we want other players as well. The gaffer has been talking to players, at a preliminary stage, and he is looking to free up some money.

“We’ve got a list of players we want and they’re all happy to come, which is good, so fingers crossed.”

Vickers also revealed that the club is hoping to tie up new deals for out-of-contract players at the Jewson Stadium by offering them more security.

He added: “We’re in the middle of renegotiations at the moment. We’re looking to offer some of the players a bit more security by giving them longer deals, however, the terms will be reduced slightly but we’re hoping players will understand that our budget, like at a lot of other clubs at this level, is tight.”
