OUTGOING skipper Danny Critchel signed off in style for Dorchester Town Under-18s.

The defender scooped the Youth Player of the Year award before helping his team-mates to a 3-2 win in a trial match at the Jewson Stadium.

The older members of the county town squad were up against Under-16s and several trialists hoping to make the Under-18 team next season.

Experience prevailed and it was a fitting end for Critchel, who will now try his luck with the first-team.

Under-18s’ boss Phil Basford said: “It’s been a pleasure to have Danny in the team for the last three years, like it has been with the other lads leaving us.

“He wants to train pre-season with the first-team and see what happens there. Playing for Dorchester is all he’s ever wanted to do.

“If he didn’t make it I’m sure he’s more than capable of following the likes of Chris Clarke at Bridport and playing Wessex League standard.”

He added: “I’d like to thank Trevor Senior and Tony Chutler for coming along and helping with the trialists.”

A Luke Turk double put the Under-18s in front at the Jewson Stadium before Charlie Lee made it 3-0. Craig Kellaway, who is also leaving the Under-18 set-up, put through his own net to give the trialists a lifeline and then Russell Tickner reduced the deficit further.

However, the older side held out to record victory.
