WESTFIELD Technology College teacher Kerry Stewart is hoping to turn the recently held New Opportunities Day into an annual event.
The idea behind the sports festival, run in conjunction with West Dorset School Sport Partnership, was to give more opportunities to children with disabilities.
Five schools attended the event and a delighted Stewart, who is also a special schools co-ordinator for WDSSP, is keen to host the fun-day every year.
She said: “It was a brilliant day. It was aimed at Year Six pupils and above who are in mainstream schools and have a disability.
“There were four different activities – football, curling, badminton and athletics – taken by professional coaches and all the pupils took part.
“A lot of the children are unable to fully compete in most festivals but here they were all equal so it helped with their self-esteem. Hopefully we will be able to hold this day every year.”
