WEYMOUTH FC’s inaugural five-a-side tournament has raised much-needed funds for the cash-strapped club.
The event, held at the Wessex Stadium, was hailed a big success with teams travelling from Eastleigh, Oxford and Sherborne to compete.
In an all-Weymouth final, the Golden Lion were crowned champions after beating Loose Moose Deli 1-0.
Sherborne Tigers took third place with the Golden Boot going to Sam Husband.
Organiser Amy Francis was delighted with how the tournament panned out and the £418 raised, which will go into the Terras’ coffers.
She said: “The day was a massive success and hopefully we can do it bigger and better this time next year.
“In total, we raised £418.65, which I think was a huge achievement.
“Thank you to all who took part in the tournament, all the teams I think played in the spirit to which it was intended, everyone had a brilliant day.
“I would like to thank all our sponsors who donated various raffle prizes; Blondz (Shaun), The Belvedere Inn (Graham), Chick-erell Football Club (Dave Drage), Sharky's (Keith), Southill Snooker Club (Bugsy), The Tank Museum (Lyn Masters), Warmwell Leisure Centre (Adam), Weymouth Golf Club (Luke), Weymouth Precision Engineers (Dave Smith) & R&B Trophies who supplied our trophies.”
