WEYMOUTH chairman Ian Ridley has called for patience while directors undertake a two-step plan to deliver some sort of stability at the cash-stricken club.
Terras’ officials have been working around the clock since last month’s relegation from the Blue Square Premier not only to find a way of managing the mounting debts at the Wessex Stadium but also in terms of formulating a plan for the future.
Ridley said: “There are two parts to managing the club at the moment. First, we as a board and an admin staff have to try and clear up the staggering mess that was allowed to build up and which we have inherited. We discover more as we go along and some of it is not very palatable.
“It means lots of talking to creditors and ex-players and trying to find a way through the financial woes that still beset the club.
“It is a demanding and time-consuming process and board members are working very hard to tie up the many loose ends and find a way forward.
“The second element comes in preparing the club for a new season in Conference South.
“That means implementing the process of selling season Two steps for Terras tickets and trying to repair the club’s image with sponsors to rebuild the club‘s income.
“There are all sorts of new, and cheaper, deals we have to negotiate with suppliers, for example.
“On top of all that, once certain financial issues are resolved, we then have to get it right when it comes to the most important thing from the fans’ point of view – playing matters.
“We have to first find a new manager who can operate within a strict budget and recruit players of the right calibre at the right price, and put together a programme for pre-season and beyond to make us competitive.
“None of this is easy and on some days it is quite daunting but we are doing our best to pull it all together.
“It may look as if the Wessex Stadium is quiet at the mom-ent but I can assure people there is much work being done to repair the past and create a future.
“We will make any announ-cements as soon as is feasible but everyone needs to stay patient at the moment. It is better to make right decisions rather than quick ones.”
When asked about the amount of interest the board has received concerning the vacant manager’s job, Ridley added: “There are various irons in the fire but we are still working with budgets and a lot of things depend on where we are and what kind of character we want.
“There has been a fair bit of interest in the job with several well-known names in there as well but we are a little way away from any kind of announcements.”
The Terras revealed their season ticket prices for the 2009-10 campaign last week and the steady stream of sales has been pleasing.
Ridley said: “The amount of season ticket sales has been encouraging. There has been a steady flow and I think the prices have been well received.
“Just as a reminder, people have got another week to take advantage of the special deal until the second one kicks in on May 16.”
