DORCHESTER will be looking to right the wrongs of last weekend’s defeat when they welcome Poole Town to the Rec tomorrow (1.30pm).
That is the verdict of county town skipper Martyn Richards who watched his reigning Dorset Premier League champions suffer a surprising six-wicket defeat at Wimborne & Colehill last Saturday.
Richards hopes the loss will act as a “wake-up call” ahead of a crunch match with perennial title challengers Poole.
He said: “Last week was a bit of a wake-up call for us. We approached the game in the same way but we suffered some freak wickets and we needed guys to step up and take responsibility quicker than they did.
“But we’re very much looking forward to putting right a few wrongs because we know that if we don’t start picking up some results then we won’t be challenging at the top.
“Poole are strong and it will be a good challenge, as well as a good opportunity to show the character that we have.
“We’ll have to be organised and get their danger men out as quick as we can. Hopefully we’ll get a result and enjoy our weekend a lot more than last time.”
Richards will make two changes for the visit of Poole. Dave Maslen is unavailable and will be replaced by Adam Rendell while Dave Herbert, a recent signing from Bridport, comes in at the expense of Joe Power.
The captain is also keen to put on a positive display in Dorchester’s first home game of the season.
He added: “There should be quite a lot of people there so we’ll be looking to put on a good show and hopefully do our friends and sponsors justice with a good performance.”
Refreshments and a barbecue will be available at the Rec tomorrow with all proceeds going to the Doug Read Scorebox Fund.

n Dorchester Seconds look to build on their opening day win over Beaminster when they visit Compton House in Division One tomorrow.
Elsewhere, in Division Seven, the county town thirds are also hoping to record back-to-back wins as they visit Cerne Valley Seconds.
