MEMBERS of the Friendship Club were guests of honour at Dorchester Town’s final game of the season.

The Friendship Club, which is part of Dorset People First and aims to bring together people with learning disabilities, had the opportunity to meet the Magpies’ stars before taking their place in the stands to watch the drama unfold at the Jewson Stadium.

Dorchester ran out 2-1 victors in the end, avoiding relegation from Blue Square South in the process.

Mark Derrien, who helps out at the Friendship Club, said: “Everyone at the football club was brilliant, they looked after us really well and we all had a wonderful time.

“The hope is that members of the group will have the confidence to go back and watch games next season, turning it into a hobby.

“I would like to thank Eddie Mitchell and Geoff Claridge at the football club for all their support and for helping to make it such a magical day. Zach, who was one of the mascots, hasn’t stopped smiling since.”

Magpies’ spokesman Geoff Claridge said: “To see the smiles on everyone’s faces was fantastic. It was a great day.”
