WEYMOUTH 13 POOLE TOWN WESSEX 0
WEYMOUTH rounded off their most successful season to date with an emphatic victory at the Wessex Stadium to complete a league and cup double.
The Terras have spent most of the season trailing their nearest rivals Blandford United due to bad weather and postponed fixtures in December and January.
That caused them to cram a large number of matches in over the Easter holiday but the hard work paid off as they captured the title in style against a battling Poole Town Wessex side.
Having lost several of their stars to injury Poole arrived with only nine players but they still put up a great fight throughout the match and played some lovely flowing football.
Bryony Webb opened the scoring when she collected a superb ball from Jody Urwin before cutting inside and firing a clinical strike into the top right corner and it was not long before she was celebrating a glorious second, which saw her apply another fine finish after beating two defenders.
Bianca Randall then weighed in with two goals, which included a penalty, before Webb completed her hat-trick following a great passing move between Chloe Lea and Georgia Rogers.
Weymouth were now well and truly in the groove and when Randall grabbed her third it was clear a big score was on the cards.
Urwin added a seventh before Randall went on to grab two more goals before the break following good work from Lea, Rachel Pedder and Rachel Sykes.
After the break Weymouth continued to look the more threatening side with Webb supplying a fantastic cross for Randall to net her sixth before racing the length of the pitch to claim her fourth.
Randall then went on to score again to land the league’s top goalscorer award with 59 goals for the season before Zoe Forward wrapped up the scoring with a 13th for the Terras after the Poole keeper had failed to hold a blistering free-kick from Urwin.
The final whistle brought jubilation for the Weymouth players as they celebrated with their manager Mark Rogers and coach Tim Davis.
A representative from the Dorset FA then presented them with their trophies and wished them well for their trip to Bristol where they will represent Dorset in the regional finals of the Tesco Cup.
Rogers said: “These girls have been fantastic all season, shown tremendous team spirit and commitment and I am very proud to be their manager.”
