MORE than £1,000 has been raised from the Will Mackaness Charity Tennis Tournament to help develop watersports in Weymouth.
Held at Weymouth Tennis Club and Wey Valley School, 29 couples ranging from the ages of nine to 60 took part with a handicap system in operation.
Kieron Morrissey and Levi Dailey entered into the spirit of the occasion by playing in fancy dress and using various types of apparatus.
The Will Mackaness Perpetual Trophy was won by experienced duo Kevin Willemse and Pete Deadman, who beat young guns Nathan Hurford and James Driver 6-3.
The event was well supported by local businesses such as Henri Lloyd, Sportsgear, Howleys, The Swan, Dragonsurf, Evolve, The Marlborough, Blondz, Procision Fitness, Adelphi Greek Restaurant, The Regency Fish Bar and Tesco, which donated runner-up and raffle prizes.
Julien Lawes sponsored the tennis balls for the day.
Elaine Webb and Gareth Jones, who ensured the success of the tournament that would have made Will proud, deserve special mention for their hard work.
And a big thank you goes to everyone who supported and donated towards the event, which looks set to be reprised next year.
