EIGHT boxers from Dorchester ABC will take to the ring and showcase their skills in front of the television cameras.

The tournament takes place at the TA Centre, Poundbury Road tonight and there will be four county town members expected to make their debuts.

BBC One cameras are also set to be present as the television channel follows up on the success of club coach Ben Geyser, who was named Unsung Hero of the Year at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards last December.

Geyser said: “The tournament promises to be another belter with competitors coming from all over the South of England.

“The line-up and form of the boxers suggests that this show should outclass all of its predecessors.

“The committee have worked hard to stage the event, but not as hard as the boxers.

“The boxers have shown incredible commitment this year and hopefully it will result in some dazzling displays of boxing.”

County town members Luke Cooney, Ryan May, Ollie Cake, Ross Rado, Henry Sheppard, Jake Chsilett, Elias Anderson and Daniel Foster are all on the bill.

Gates open at 7pm with the action set to get underway at 8pm. A licensed bar, refreshments and a raffle will also be available.

Tickets for the show can be purchased from Steptoe’s, Peter Pan, Sydney Arms, Gentz, Cartridge Zone, the Victoria Hotel and George Tucker butcher’s shop.
