TOBY Osmond flew the flag for Weymouth Amateur Boxing Club at their gentleman’s black-tie evening.

The youngster was the only home victor at the Hotel Rembrandt tournament with Weymouth’s other representatives losing out despite valiant efforts.

Special guest for the night Nicky Piper, a former Commonwealth light-heavyweight champion, watched as Osmond earned a majority decision in his bout with L Trinder (Penhill).

Club-mates Alistair Corson and Mo Khan though, were on the wrong end of verdicts in their respective bouts.

Corson lost on a majority decision to S Tribeck in a contest that could have gone either way while Khan was beaten, again on a majority decision, by Louie D’Costa of Penhill in another close call.

Weymouth’s Brendan McNulty fought well but was forced to retire in his bout with older competitor P Augustynik of Taunton.

The seasiders’ other competitor on the night, Storm Look, stepped in at short notice to take on Paul Johnson of Penhill in a skills bout with both boxers putting on a good display.

Weymouth ABC president David Nelmes hailed a successful night. He said: “It was an absolutely brilliant night. We had nine great bouts in total, guest speaker Nicky Piper was excellent and everyone enjoyed themselves so it was a good tournament. Special mention should go to Storm Look who came in on a day’s notice having previously been out with a broken nose.”

Weymouth’s next show takes place on November 8 at Redlands Community Sports Hub.
