CO-CARETAKER managers Steve Alcock and Mark Nicholson will stage “a bit of a clearout” at Weymouth Sports should they still be in charge next season.

Alcock made the admission after the Seasiders ended their successful campaign in the Dorset Senior League with a third successive defeat at Stourpaine.

He said: “To finish runners-up in the league has been a great achievement but the lacklustre way in which we have finished the campaign is very disappointing.

“I do not want to name names but two or three people just as well had not bothered turning up. As soon as they realised we could not win the league anymore they just switched off and that negative attitude has let down the people who have been really putting it in.

“I wanted us to finish the season on a high and set out our stall for what we want to do next year but it has not happened like that and I think some of them towards the end have let the club down and the chairman Mark Richards down.

“It is a pretty sad end to a very good campaign. The general attitude of a few players has put the mockers on things and believe me if Mark and I do stay in charge next season we will be staging a bit of a clearout.

“At times a distinct lack of respect for each other and officials has let the team down and that needs to change particularly if we want to be up there competing for the title next season.”

Andy Cleal cancelled out an early opener by the Steamers before the game became shrouded in controversy when Robbie Rolls attempted to give the ball back to the home keeper following a stoppage only to accidentally lob it into the net.

In an act of sportsmanship Alcock told his men to let Stourpaine walk through and score but their effort from halfway lacked the pace to reach the target. That led to a moment of confusion before finally a home player ran up and put the ball into the net.

In the latter stages both teams threw caution to the wind in the bid to find a winner and it was the Steamers that came up with it to cement their position in sixth spot.

The Kangaroos have finished rock bottom of the Dorset Senior League following a 4-2 defeat at Moreton.

The Dorchester outfit had to win by a margin of six goals to stand any chance of lifting themselves off the basement but the hosts took the spoils.

Moreton will stay in 10th position as long as second-bottom Bishops Caundle fail to win at Wareham Rangers by three clear goals on May 9.

WAREHAM RANGERS v EASTON UNITED EASTON United boss Chris Wilson wants his men to ensure they finish their season on a high by claiming back-to-back wins in their final two games in the Dorset Senior League.

The Portlanders have lost their last three and still require three points to secure third spot – a feat Wilson is desperate to achieve in what could be the club’s last season.

He said: “It is no secret that things at the club are touch and go and a decision on its future will be made over the next couple of weeks.

“But whatever happens it is important we go out and try and finish the season strongly because we may only have a couple of games left together and I want us to enjoy them and secure third place.”

Easton lost 1-0 against Wareham Rangers last Saturday so they will no doubt have revenge on their minds ahead of tomorrow’s return trip to Worgret Road.

Aaron Williams misses out for the Portlanders with a broken toe but Terry Oldrid should return.
