CHICKERELL United boss Maurice Welch will be warning his players against complacency tonight (6.30pm) as lowly Cobham Sports visit Weymouth College.
The Chickens are on a 15-match unbeaten run and could mathematically still win the Dorset Premier League title.
Welch’s men recorded an impressive 3-1 win at West-land Sports on Tuesday night but with mounting injury worries and less than 48 hours recovery time, the United manager is wary going into this evening’s clash.
He said: “We’re a bit thin on the ground at the moment but all credit to the lads who have come in as they’ve done superbly well.
“Scott Henley came off after an hour on Tuesday with a thigh strain and we lost Liam Miles after only a quarter of an hour because of a nasty gash to his shin.
“In total we have six players out, good first-team players too, but hopefully we’ll get a result against Cranborne and then have a mini-break as we’ve got no game Saturday.
“But we can’t go into the game thinking it will be easy. The last thing we want to do is be complacent.”
Reflecting on Tuesday night’s victory, in which Warren White, Scott Henley and Ben Coltart were on target for the Chickens, Welch added: “It was an excellent result, the boys played tremendously. West-land were on top for the first 10 minutes but then with our first attack Warren out-muscled a defender before lobbing the keeper.
“They came back at us and got a deserved equaliser. But following a corner, Scott caught it well on the volley and then right on half-time Ben Coltart scored to make it 3-1.
“We defended well in the second half and limited them to half-chances really.”
