A MEMORIAL match in honour of former Dorchester Town Player Dave Annear will take place at Cranford Avenue on Sunday to raise funds as well as awareness for the Anthony Nolan Trust.
The game, between a Weymouth Sports Old Boys XI and a Land Registry XI, will kick-off at 11.30am and be followed by a post-match function at the Famous Old Spa on Dorchester Road.
Mark Reid, who is organising the match alongside former Weymouth Sports and Portland United manager Dave Kiteley, said: “Dave Kiteley used to play with Dave Annear and he approached me and said about putting on a game in his honour.
“He is organising the Sports XI which will be made up of past players who knew or played with Dave, while a team is being put together from the Land Registry by Julian Scott, which will consist of former work colleagues and friends.
“Dave was a truly lovely person and a true gentleman who was an all round sportsman, and this is the perfect tribute for such a highly regarded and loved person.
“After the game we will all be going back to the Famous Old Spa, who will kindly be putting on a barbecue and a children’s entertainer. A raffle will also be held and we have some really good prizes already.
“We have been overwhelmed by the support we have received so far. All the prizes are being donated by local businesses so if anyone would like to offer their support or donate a prize please contact me on 07917275301.
“We will be holding a minute’s applause before the match and we hope a lot of people will come down in support.
“We aim to raise lots of money for the Anthony Nolan Trust as well as awareness for the importance of getting on the donor list.
“If anyone is unable to make the match, donations can be sent to me at 201 Portland Road, Weymouth, DT4 9BH. Please make cheques payable to The Anthony Nolan Trust.”
The Anthony Nolan Trust is a charity in the UK that focuses on Leukaemia and bone marrow transplantation.
