PLAYER-MANAGER Chris Wilson has admitted that Easton’s season is in danger of fizzling out following a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Wareham Rangers.
The determined boss is not willing to let that happen but claimed that his side’s performance at the Grove was one of their poorest of the campaign so far.
The loss has seen Easton drop to fourth in the Dorset Senior League table, three points adrift of Okeford United with two games in hand.
Wilson said: “As a spectacle it was poor and I don’t think either team deserved to win to be honest.
“There were hardly any clear cut chances and I don’t think we even had a sniff in what was one of our worst displays of the season so far.
“The winning goal came on 15 minutes after a free-kick was smashed at James Turrell’s face. He put an arm up to protect himself and the referee awarded handball and moved the free-kick even closer.
“They then had a shot and although Dave Anthony did well to save it as the ball just dropped in front of him, they got to the loose ball first.
“After that we played some pretty decent stuff but we never looked like scoring and now we have to get together as a group and make sure we put things right on Saturday when we take on Wareham again at their place.”
Due to their superior goal difference over Okeford, three points from their last two games should be enough to secure the Portlanders the top-three finish they are after.
However, Wilson will not rest until the job is done. He said: “The last thing I wanted was for our season to fizzle out and at the moment it is in danger of doing so.
“I am determined not to let that happen as we still have work to do if we are to grab third spot.”
Easton: Anthony, Carlile, Maxted, Williams (Limm 20), B Skelton, Turrell (Wilson 80), Simmonds, Burley, Moore, Bowler, A Skelton.
* The Kangaroos look destined to finish bottom of the Dorset Senior League table following a 3-1 home defeat against Tintinhull. The loss has left the Dorchester outfit three points adrift of safety with just one game left to play.
