PORTLAND Red Triangle will unveil another new chapter in its history with the first girls only coaching session being held at the Osprey Leisure Centre in Castletown.
The sessions, to be held on Thursday, May 7 (6-8pm), will cost £1 with the initiative running for 10 weeks.
Club secretary Grant Neven said: “2009 is going to be a huge year for cricket. We will lock horns with Australia for the Ashes, take part in a series against the West Indies and of course compete for the Twenty20 World Cup.
“Meanwhile, England Ladies became world champions this year so the profile of cricket should be raised a few notches.
“We at Triangle strive hard to promote cricket at all levels within a friendly and community-minded club.
“The girls only sessions will primarily be aimed at the 8-11 year-old age group but no one will be turned away.
“The long-term aim is to establish a team to compete in the Dorset Girls’ League planned for 2010.”
Meanwhile Triangle is moving its youth coaching sessions to Wednesday nights.
The switch will come into action from May 6 with each session taking place at Reforne from 6pm to 8pm at a cost of £2 per session.
Youngsters aged from eight to 16 years are welcome, regardless of ability or previous experience, with the aim being to give every child an opportunity to learn about the game and hopefully progress into one of the club’s three junior teams.
The club’s fully qualified ECB coaches will run all sessions and anyone wishing for further information can contact Neven on 07887943621.
