WEYMOUTH Doonan Wildcats begin a busy week of action tonight with a trip to the Isle of Wight Islanders for a Challenge meeting (7.30pm).
The Wildcats stuffed the Islanders 62-31 at the Wessex Bus Raceway almost a fortnight ago but their National League rivals will no doubt fancy their chances on home shale.
And the Islanders’ cause will be boosted by the inclusion of former Wildcat Tom Brown while Weymouth will be without the services of reserve rider Tim Webster due to a bout of tonsillitis. Squad member Alex McLeod is expected to fill the void.
Wildcats’ chairman Phil Bartlett is expecting a tough time this evening.
He said: “The Isle of Wight may have been thrashed by Bourne-mouth on their own track but their riders have been spending more time on their track and should be more used to it now.
“We’ll go there hoping to win but in speedway anything can happen. We’re expecting it to be tough as all away meetings tend to be.”
Following tonight’s contest, the Wildcats take on the Plymouth Devils this weekend in a Devon & Dorset Trophy double header.
