VICTORY for Premiership leaders the Belvedere over nearest rivals Britannia at the Marsh tomorrow (10.30am) will see them move to within two points of clinching a third successive title.
But Belve boss Bobby Darch is expecting a tough encounter against the Portlanders. The player-manager, who will be without Noddy Coan and Chris Wyatt for the clash, said: “The Brit will be a massive game as they have pushed us hard all season. We must be looking for a positive result though in a match where it is really up to them to beat us.”
Meanwhile, nothing less than a victory will do for the Duke of Albany when they take on the Rodwell.
The Duke drew 1-1 with the Railway Tavern last week and now must win all their remaining games to stand any chance of claiming the championship.
Ben Porteous, Josh Burton, Sean Harris and Jason Pearce are all unavailable for the Park Street outfit whilst strikers Adam Linaker (knee) and Chris Sweetser-Hawkes (shoulder) both remain sidelined The other top-flight encounter sees AFC Black Dog take on the Rendez-vous in a basement battle. The Dog will be hoping for a change of fortunes after crashing to an 8-1 drubbing against the Rodwell last week in which they lost both Wayne Day and Jamie Legg to injury.
The Marsh also plays host to the all-Premiership tie between the Lugger and the Kingswood in the Len Mahoney Cup.
And the Wood, who have won their last 12 on the spin, are expecting their toughest game to date. Co-manager Jason Wellman said: “The Lugger have produced some great performances this season and they will be gunning for us big time. We will have to make sure we match their commitment.”
The Wood will be without Simon Shapcott through suspension and striker Nick Etherington, who has been ruled out with a rib injury.
In the other Len Mahoney Cup quarter-final ties, which were played in midweek, the Duke eased through by beating Queens Park Venue 4-2.
Goals from Rob Sharpe, Luke Tomlin, Danny Andrews and Sean Zima put the Park Street boys 4-0 up after an hour but they took their foot off the gas and allowed Queens to hit back with efforts from Dean Williams and Lee Thomas.
The Rodwell and Southill SC were the other two teams to progress with victories over the Britannia and the George (Dorch) respectively.
There were also some thrilling encounters in the last eight of the Les Hallett Trophy where favourites the Belve marched through with goals from Matt Brown and Paul Cole in a 2-0 win over Galaxy Windows.
Kipper Espley netted a hat-trick to help the Market House progress with a 5-1 success over the Alex. The Maiden Street outfit’s other strikes came from Joe Gibson and Chris Mason.
The Tuatara also booked their place in the semi-finals after bagging a 4-0 win over AFC Black Dog.
Portland United winger John Lamb grabbed a hat-trick but the man-of-the-match mantle went to Danny Dancer for an unblemished defensive display. Michael Upton grabbed the other goal.
In the other tie, the George (Portland) advanced with a 5-0 win over the Rock.
