FORMER Commonwealth light-heavyweight champion Nicky Piper has stepped in to be guest of honour at Weymouth Amateur Boxing Club’s gentleman’s black-tie evening.

Ex-British, Commonwealth and IBF cruiserweight world champion Glenn McCrory was set to attend the Hotel Rembrandt event on Saturday, April 25 but has been forced to withdraw due to Sky Sports commitments.

However, Piper, who recorded 26 wins in 33-career bouts, will now take his place.

Six Weymouth boxers will be on the bill. Storm and Jon Jo Look are both set for action and will be paired with K McLaughan (Titans) and J Davies (Taunton) respectively.

Toby Osmond is up against Penhill’s L Trinder while Jason Osmond will go toe-to-toe with recent opponent Derek Nurding, whom the Weymouth member defeated to clinch the Southern Area title.

Alistair Corson will box L Stacey of Titans with Brendan McNulty set to compete against P Augustynik of Taunton.

A raffle will also take place on the night with top prizes of a 42 inch plasma TV, a golf weekend for two at the 2010 Ryder Cup venue of Celtic Manor, and a Dell laptop.

Tickets for the showpiece cost £80 and includes a four-course meal.
