DORCHESTER Town could secure their Blue Square South status tomorrow with victory at Bognor Regis Town (3pm).

Should the Magpies triumph at the already relegated Rocks and 20th-placed Thurrock, who lie five points behind Dorchester, fail to beat Newport County in Wales, then Roy O’Brien’s men will guarantee safety.

And Dorchester’s player-boss is keen to seal survival at the earliest opportunity especially as his squad will be further diminished for the final game of the season against Bromley.

O’Brien, who will be without Kevin Hill, Nick Crittenden and Mitchell Nicholson next weekend due to suspension, said: “We want to go there and win. I know Bognor are already relegated but that can make them quite dangerous as they’ve not got a lot to play for.

“In terms of our own survival we’ve got a lot to do to win the game. Bognor beat Eastleigh on Monday so we’ll have to be on our game.

“It’s vitally important we don’t lose, hopefully though we’ll go and win the game.”

O’Brien is currently nursing a broken metatarsal, which he sustained in last Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Newport, and joins fellow defender Gary Bowles on the sidelines for the remainder of the campaign.

Speaking of his injury, the county town chief added: “All I remember is that it was rather innocuous. I was trying to get the ball away and a player ran over my foot.

“I felt pain in my foot and the next thing I knew it had swollen like a balloon so I went for an x-ray and that’s when I found out I had a broken metatarsal.

“With Bowlesy already out and now me we’re pretty limited but the rest of the last have been fantastic.”

One man who has returned form injury in the past week is Ivan Forbes, following an eight-month absence.

O’Brien said: “I’m delighted to see Ivan back. I didn’t really want to use him because of the extent of the injury he had but he was given the go ahead, looked fine in training, and was very positive about it all. He’s got the bit between his teeth and he can be a very influential player for us.

“Having two decent wingers in Ivan and Nick Crittenden, who are both forward thinking, helps takes the pressure off the defensive unit.”
