PETE Clarke and Benedict Westhenry both bagged trebles at Weymouth St Paul’s Harriers’ annual AGM and awards night.

Other multiple award winners were juniors Tom Austin and Abigail Strong, who both collected two prizes.

Club president Norman White, in his opening address, highlighted the role of the coaches, noting that without them the club could not function.

And it was a fitting tribute as the Harriers paid particular honour to Clarke, who has coached within the club for 43 years and is now going to take more of a back seat.

Paul Fairbank, who was coached by Clarke as a schoolboy in the early 1980s, led the tributes, recalling his imaginative and enthusiastic coaching style as well as his achievements as an athlete before awarding him the Recognition of Outstanding Support Cup.

Clarke was also awarded the Loyalty Test Cup and Best Senior Male Award.

For the juniors, Westhenry came home with several awards for a second year running.

Westhenry won the TG Copp Memorial Cup for achievement, presented to him by Brian Copp, the Dave Buck Trophy for Cross-Country, with Dave Buck on hand to present it, and was named Under-15 Boy Competitor of the Year.

Austin came away with the Most Improved Under-15 Boy and the new Annual Scholarship Award, in recognition of his effort and achievement over the last year.

Strong scooped the Under-13 Girl Best Competitor of the Year prize and another new award, the Sunshine Cup, which has been introduced in memory of former Harrier Sophie Llewellyn who has sadly died.

The club also honoured Duncan Montrose with the Babb Rose Bowl for his ongoing practical support for the club while Mike Smith, who has recently completed his 100th marathon, was named Male Road Runner of the Year with Judith Boichet receiving the Ladies’ Road Runners Cup.

Meanwhile, Charlotte Lidgley-Ryan captured the award for Outstanding Dedication and Effort.
