WEYMOUTH Sports are out of the Dorset Senior League title race following a goal-less draw at Bishops Caundle.
The Weymouth College outfit did “everything but score” against Caundle and the two points dropped, coupled with Parley Sports’ 3-0 win at Tintinhull, has given Parley an insurmountable lead at the summit.
However, Steve Alcock’s men remain on course for promotion to the Dorset Premier League as two teams are expected to make the step up.
Co-manager Alcock said: “The title race has run its course and it’s a shame really.
“We’ve been chasing the amount of the games for much of the season and when you’re four or five games behind it’s difficult because they have got the points on the board and the pressure is on us.
“We’re still looking to go up. The chairman’s keen and the players seem to want to stay together.”
Of the stalemate at Bishops Caundle, Alcock added: “We did everything but score. We had the ball in their half for 90 per cent of the game, we just couldn’t put all the parts together.
“We hit the post a couple of times and their keeper made some fantastic saves as well so it wasn’t for the lack of trying.
“We’ve just got to make sure we secure second place now. We need three points from four games and I’d like to think we could do that, but there are no guarantees.”
Weymouth Sports host third-placed Easton United on Saturday.
