IVAN Forbes is on cloud nine having made his return to the Dorchester squad after eight months of agony.
The Portuguese forward was lethal in pre-season, netting six goals in nine games, but a reckless challenge on the opening day against Braintree Town, resulting in cruciate knee damage, looked to have put an end to Forbes’ season.
However, 35 weeks later, the 22-year-old made a dramatic return to action, replacing injured player-manager Roy O’Brien in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at home to Newport County before coming off the bench again in the 2-2 draw at Weston-super-Mare on Easter Monday.
Forbes said: “I was asked if I could go on the bench on Saturday and come on if necessary, and I said I was ready. Unfortunately for Roy he got injured and I came on.
“It felt good to be out there. I didn’t fell any pain afterwards so that’s good and I’m just buzzing at the moment.
“I’ve always worked towards getting back this season, I knew it was unlikely but it shows that I’ve been doing all I can in my recovery.
“Being away for so long and having to watch all the games has been frustrating but I had to deal with it and now I can be a part of things again. I’m glad to be back before the end of the season and that was my aim.”
Forbes is now focused on securing the Magpies’ Blue Square South status for another season and getting among the goals in the final two games of the campaign.
He added: “If I come on my intention is to score. I’ve set myself a target for the last two games as when I’m on the pitch I’ve got to think goals.
“The last two games are winnable and we’ll be going for six points. This season has been a massive journey for so many reasons, all we can do is look forward to the next one and be positive.”
In the midst of his rehabilitation, Forbes has witnessed the departure of former boss Shaun Brooks and the appointment of O’Brien.
He said: “Both Roy and Ashley Vickers have been very positive since they took over and they’ve give the lads lots of confidence in their ability.
“Obviously knowing Roy already made it easier while Ashley has come in and given everyone a lot of belief.”
