BOSS Bobby Gould was a “little disappointed” to see his new side miss out on three valuable points yesterday.

The Terras took the lead against Forest Green through Cliff Akurang but were pegged back by Andy Mangan’s close-range finish shortly after half-time.

The draw ends a dismal run of 11 consecutive defeats in the Blue Square Premier, however, Gould believes Weymouth could and perhaps should have been out of sight before the visitors equalised.

Gould, overseeing his first game in charge since replacing Alan Lewer on Saturday night, said: “When you hit the woodwork twice, score a goal, and then have a great chance just after half-time, you look at the result and feel a little disappointed because I think we created enough chances to win.

“Forest Green did put us under pressure in the second half because they’re a good team who are well managed. Whereas we’re a rag, tag and bobtail team at the moment and I mean that in a nice way because I’m included in that too.”

Akurang’s strike ended a run of 716 minutes without a goal for the Terras and the relief around the Wessex Stadium was clear to see when the ball finally hit the back of the net.

The new boss paid tribute to strikers Akurang and Fola Onibuje after they caused numerous problems in the first half.

He said: “Their two centre-halves were waving white flags at a certain time. We had to take Fola off because he has a groin injury and we brought Akurang off because he had put a real shift in.”

Gould has four games left to try and help save Weymouth from relegation. As it stands the Terras remain in the drop-zone due to their inferior goal difference.

And Gould is hoping that attention to detail will help lift the Terras out of the bottom four.

He said: “We’ll keep stats on who gets shots in and crosses in, and I’ll give them a marking as well to identify how they’ve played.

"I look at cricket and they know what their average is. In football we just play the game and forget all about it.

"We need to take more responsibility to look at what we can improve on. And that’s what we’ll be looking at over the next four games.”
