DORSET manager Sean Walbridge is hoping for more of the same from his players when they visit Somerset Seconds at Taunton Vale Cricket Club tomorrow.
The Dean Park outfit opened their pre-season campaign with a 55-run victory over Wiltshire last weekend and Walbridge is optimistic they can continue that form after months of hard work on their one-day game during the Winter break.
He said: “We scored 209-9 last week with Chris Jones top-scoring with 62 and good contributions coming from Darren Cowley (36), Roger Sillence (28) and Ed Denham (22).
“We then backed that up by bowling Wiltshire out for 154 and it was great to see all of the bowlers picking up wickets with Paul Warren claiming figures of 3-18 and Tom Hicks grabbing 2-8.
“So overall it was a very encouraging start and I am extremely pleased with how things are going. It was great to see everyone get a bat and some overs under their belts and we are now all looking forward to the game against Somerset Seconds tomorrow.
“Some of the things we worked on during the winter were encouraging last week. Of course there are also certain areas where we can improve as well but you expect that at this early stage and we will be working on those throughout the next few weeks and tomorrow when hopefully we can put on another good performance.”
Walbridge has made one change to his line up for the trip to Somerset with Dorchester all-rounder Dan Belt being replaced by Martin Ford.
He added: “The reason for the switch is to simply give me an opportunity to look at Martin before the start of the season.”
Meanwhile, Sillence has finally registered with Dorset. The talented player put pen-to-paper following the victory over Wiltshire.
Dorset: Nick Park, Glyn Treagus, Chris Jones, Roger Sillence, Darren Cowley, Tom Hicks (c), Max Waller, Paul Tweddle (wk), Martin Ford, Ed Denham, Rich Banham. 12th Man: Paul Warren. Scorer: Alan Mills.
