MIDFIELDER Stephen Reed is determined to banish the hurt of the past month by helping keep Weymouth in the Blue Square Premier.
The 23-year-old finally returns this weekend from a five-game suspension and he is champing at the bit as the Terras look to end a 10-game losing streak at bottom-of-the-table Lewes tomorrow (3pm).
Reed said: “Watching from the stands has really hurt over the past month. To see the lads concede and lose five on the spin and feel totally helpless is so frustrating but now I have a chance to help put things right and hopefully that will start tomorrow at Lewes, which is a massive game.”
The Terras sit just one point above the drop-zone in 20th spot and in desperate need of a spark after failing to find the net in their last six games.
Reed added: “We just need something to go our way to get us going. A goal or a big tackle to get us in the right flow again. We desperately need three points and we will be going to Lewes to attack. They are already relegated and have nothing to play for which will make it 10 times as hard but we know what we have to do and it is time for us to start delivering.
“Due to the club’s circumstances over the past few months we are a team that has just been thrown together. Many of the players who have come in are on non-contract terms and with just six games left now it is up to them to put themselves in the shop window by keeping the club up because relegation does not look good on the CV.”
Reed is likely to play alongside player-coach Marcus Browning in Weymouth’s midfield tomorrow. The former Wales international returned from a calf injury in last Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Eastbourne Borough and Reed reckons the pair of them could hold the key to the Terras’ survival hopes.
He said: “With Marcus and I in the middle of the park it gives the team a bit more experience and trust me we will be working our socks off for the cause. Hopefully we will also be able to provide more service to the front men who I am sure will start taking their chances now when they come along.”
Cameron Mawer, James Coutts and Jordan Collins are all doubts for the trip to Sussex, where the Terras are expected to start with Jermaine Palmer and Cliff Akurang up front.
