BRIDPORT 4 CLEVEDON UNITED 1

BRIDPORT bagged their biggest home Toolstation Western League Division One win of the season after crushing Clevedon.

An early goal by Dan Wise put the Bees in the driving seat after only four minutes.

Clevedon’s keeper Dan O’Brien’s poor clearance fell to Wise who coolly slid the ball home.

Bridport stopper Lee Cuff was in early action fielding a long throw from Mark James. Following on from this Bees gained a corner taken by Matt Condliffe, Chris Clarke beat United’s keeper to the ball but knocked it over the bar.

Mark James caused the Bees’ defence problems with his long throws and Cuff had to be alert and come out quickly to negate the danger.

Clevedon were beginning to look the most dangerous side and the home mid-field had to work hard to help their defence.

The visitors used the long ball to good effect but again Cuff was on hand to take most of the crosses and throws that came his way.

After half-an-hour Wise received a ball out of defence and fed Shane Evans but he pulled his left-foot shot just wide.

The game now seemed to be moving Bridport’s way. Wise’s shot went narrowly wide and just before the break a smart move by the home side, involving Chris Senior and Ashley Clarke, ended with Wise blasting over.

Ten minutes into the second half Clevedon equalised when yet another long throw from James was nodded across the goal for Ben Cook to calmly head home.

It did not take long for the Bees to re-establish their lead when a glorious pass from Senior was taken by Condliffe who took one touch before hammering the ball home, giving O’Brien no chance.

From here on Bridport upped their game and although the visitors tried to stem the tide the Bees were now in control.

And more chances came the way of the home side. On 70 minutes a trade-mark free-kick from Wise eluded the United defence and Darren Lock was on hand to guide the ball home to make it 3-1.

Bridport wrapped up the points in the 86th minute when a superb ball from Coggins found the speedy Gary Bulman who clipped the ball home.
