Under-14 County Cup Final
WEYMOUTH FC 6 WEYMOUTH DIAMONDS 0
WEYMOUTH FC hit the Diamonds for six in this entertaining final at Ferndown.
Despite the final scoreline Division Three team Diamonds did not let their Division One rivals have an easy time of it and continued battling to the final whistle.
Weymouth FC started strongly and had three close efforts before Will Sonner was brought down in the box, allowing Danny Way to slot home from the resulting penalty.
Michael Sonner then made it two just five minutes later with a well-placed lob over the keeper as the Division One side began to take full control.
Way hit the woodwork and Tom Wade had an effort saved by Diamonds’ keeper Kyle Holmes before Tom Hillyar, returning from injury, grabbed the third with his first touch.
Sam Bosworth then went close but a fourth goal was not far behind with Michael Sonner grabbing his second just before the break.
The second half saw more fine passing football from Weymouth FC and continued hard work from Diamonds. Will Sonner eventually made it 5-0 before Way hit the crossbar and Hillyar fired in a sixth by converting George Christopher’s superb cross.
