NORTH DORSET II 12 WEYMOUTH 38

THE race for second place in Dorset & Wilts One South will go to the final day of the season after Weymouth recorded a 38-12 win at North Dorset Seconds.

The Seasiders, who lie third, remain just a point behind Bridport with only one game of the campaign remaining.

The Blues ran out 34-19 winners at Swanage & Wareham Seconds so it was imperative that Weymouth picked up a win to stay in the hunt for the runners-up spot.

Meanwhile, Weymouth Seconds’ John Beare was overjoyed with his side’s victory in his last home game as captain.

The Seasiders earned a hard-fought Dorset & Wilts Three South victory over third-placed Oakmeadians Thirds, winning 13-10 at Monmouth Avenue.

Damien Maston and Nathan Allan both scored unconverted tries in the first half with the Oaks scoring a drop goal.

The second half saw the visitors close the gap with a converted try but Allan won the game for Weymouth with a penalty 10 minutes from time.

Beare awarded the man of the match accolade to Maston and was pleased with the Seasiders’ showing in their final outing at Monmouth Avenue.

He said: “We fought hard together to support one another and did exceptionally well considering a number of players had been called up to the first team due to injuries.”
