DORCHESTER 33
CORSHAM 22
Dorchester earned a much needed victory against fellow strugglers Corsham in their latest Counties 1 Tribute Southern South fixture at Surcouf Park.
The Dorset club had previously won just twice in in nine games this season but their bonus point victory over their relegation rivals has seen them move up to ninth place.
Last time out they were humbled by fellow Dorset side Swanage & Wareham as they lost 66-10 to the Swans.
But a scintillating display by Callum King ensured victory for Dorchester on a wet Saturday afternoon with the back scoring 23 points on the day.
Played in a continuous drizzle both sides struggled with the conditions early on but it was Dorchester who scored first as Callum King forced his way over under the posts. He then converted his own try for the extras.
The home sides lead did not last for long though, as Corsham outflanked the Dorchester defence for a try on the right wing. The successful conversion levelled the scores.
With neither side able to control the game in the opening exchanges, the scores were level well into the second quarter of the half.
Finally though, King crossed for his second try of the game which again he converted in clinical fashion.
But then, with the last kick of the half, Corsham popped over a simple penalty goal to reduce the deficit before the break.
The second half followed in similar fashion until Dorchester broke the deadlock with an outstanding try by their skipper Jack Hayward
With Corsham deep in Dorchester territory, the ball was turned over, releasing flying fullback Flynn Drummond on a seventy metre run before off loading to Hayward to touch down over the whitewash for try number three. King added the extras again in what was turning out to be a fine game for the back.
The visitors did score next though, with a second unconverted try but Dorchester's lead was never really threatened for the remainder of the game.
Dorchester's dominance at scrum time was putting Corsham under some intense pressure and soon Freddie Lambourn burst over for the bonus point try.
This was swiftly followed by King completing his hattrick.
His following conversion completed the home sides scoring and although Corsham did add a consolation try in the dying seconds, Dorchester were deserved winners.
Dorchester now have a busy month ahead of them with three fixtures before Christmas.
First they travel to bottom of the table Combe Down on Saturday, before facing two of this season's title chasing sides.
They host top of the table Royal Wooton Bassett IIs on December 14 and second placed Devizes on December 21.
