Dorchester Sports 2

Hamworthy Recreation Reserves 0

Dorchester Sports got back to winning ways and kept their titles hopes alive with 2-0 home win over Hamworthy Recreation Reserves.

Sports came into the game without a win in three league games and made it a league double over their Poole-based opponents on Saturday in the Dorset Premier League.

Dan Sheehy opened the scoring in the first half before Toby Kelly secured all three points with a second half strike as Dorchester registered their 12th win of the campaign.

It was the away side who started the brighter of the two sides at The Avenue, though, with more possession, moving the ball well.

However, they were unable to create that many clear cut chances with Sports' defence standing strong.

Sports grew into the game and after 30 minutes Ashley James' side started to see more of the ball and created two good chances.

First Joel Hewitt blazed just wide after cutting in from the left hand side and then Alex Godfrey had a chance well saved from close range with Euan Joyce's rebounded effort deflected for a corner. From the resulting corner Sam Poole saw a header go just wide.

The pressure was mounting on the away side and Sports got their goal just before half time.

Godfrey's clever flicked pass found Sheehy who smashed in from close range to give Sports the lead at half time

Dorchester came out in the second half the better side and controlled the game with a good amount of possession giving Ham Rec very little to work with.

Sports missed a number of chances to double the lead, though, as they dominated play.

Hewitt went through on goal twice with one-on-one's with Ham Rec's keeper but both times was well saved by Henry Birtwistle.

Then Toby Kelly had a good chance but his strike was also saved by Birtwistle.

Kelly did put the game to bed shortly after when again another clever give and go with Godfrey saw Kelly's left footed shot find the corner of the net.

Ham Rec did miss a good chance from close range late on after a great cross blazed over the bar to finish the afternoon's action.

The result means Dorchester remain in third place, just two points off league leaders Bournemouth Sports who beat Portland Reserves 4-2.

Elsewhere in the league Swanage & Herston Town beat Blandford United 2-1, Balti Sports lost 6-2 to Bournemouth Electric, whilst Cobham Sports thrashed Bridport Reserves 6-2.

There were also wins for Holt united, Westland Sports and Hamworthy United Reserves.

Next up for Dorchester is a Ridgeway derby with Balti Sports as they travel to Weymouth on Saturday, November 7.
