JASON Matthews said it is up to him to get the players motivated for the game with Tonbridge Angels following Mark Molesley's exit.

Matthews has taken charge of the Terras on an interim basis until the club finds a long term successor to Molesley and was speaking for the first time since his temporary appointment.

The club are in the process of taking applications for permanent role but until that person is found, Matthews knows the responsibility lies on his shoulders to turn the club's fortunes around.

Speaking ahead of the game, he said: "It feels sad as I class Mark as a friend but the board have made their decision and the club has got to move on.

"I am happy to step into the breach and it is down to me to put smiles on faces and that is what I aim to do and I am sure the fans will be right behind us.

"After the disappointing game with Truro on Saturday it is up to us to show a reaction and it is up to me to get the boys feeling ten feet high to win the game."

On Molesley's sacking, he added: "Mark is a really likeable guy and it is sad to see him go but football is a results business and the results and not gone with him but moving forward we have to put the wrongs right."

The Terras poor start to the campaign has been compounded by the fact that they have yet to register a win at the Bob Lucas in the National League South.

After running Tonbridge close on the opening day, Matthews believes the team has every capability of finally getting three points in front of their fans.

He added: "It would be massive to get that monkey of our back.

"Losing to Tonbridge on the opening day means it is definitely a case of we owe them one.

"It was a close game up there and the game could have gone either way so we need to go out on the front foot."

Now that the season is at the halfway stage, and with Weymouth sat precariously in 23rd place, relegation is a real threat for the club.

When asked if he believed the squad was good enough to stay up, Matthews said: "I definitely do.

"It's a really good squad and it will be tough to pick 11 players but it is up to me to get the team playing football and give everyone a lift and get out of the relegation zone."

Two players that Matthews will be able to choose from is Brandon Goodship and Mal Linton.

Both players have been out for long periods this season due to injury and are only now just making it back to full fitness.

Goodship has scored twice since his return and Linton has made two appearances off the bench with Matthews saying it is 'absolutely massive' to have the striking duo back.

He added: "I am really privileged coming in when Brandon and Mal are fit and Mark adding Jake McCarthy means we have added quality and something different, so it will be a selection headache on Saturday."

The Terras interim boss will be without two players though, as Ben Greenwood has suffered a 'nasty knock' on the top of his foot, and whilst an x-ray revealed it was not broken, there is severe bruising and will miss the Tonbridge game.

Jordan Maguire-Drew is also sidelined after limping off in the 4-1 defeat to Truro in midweek with a calf strain and will to be out for two weeks.

Kick off at the Bob Lucas is at 3pm on Saturday, November 30.
