Members of the Weymouth and Portland Cruising Association are being urged to help run the club next year.

Following the recent extraordinary general meeting, club president, Tess Reid, ran an open discussion for members to put forward their ideas for the future of the club.

She was pleased to confirm that Neil Stroud had agreed to take on the role of cruising officer but he would like an assistant to help with the organisation of longer cruises.

Reid said: "Neil has already planned a number of shorter trips for 2025 and will be putting together a full programme in the near future.

"Next year there will be a number of vacancies on the Committee and members are being urged to consider whether they could put their name forward to help with the running of the club in 2025."

In the meantime the winter talks programme continues next Tuesday, December 3, when retired local veterinary Martin Fielding and Dorset’s 'James Herriot' visits to tell more of his stories.

He ran his own practice in Dorchester for many years and was joined by Dave Cumber to form Fielding and Cumber Veterinary Practice in Weymouth.

He has been retired for some years now and enjoys speaking and relating stories from his time as a vet and as many of those who have heard Martin talk before know this will be a highly entertaining evening.

The talk will start at 8pm with the bar open at 7.30 p.m. and it is open to all local sailors.
